Giveaway- Uganda Jewelry

 CLOSED
Winner- #26  Katie

NOTE: Please know this giveaway ended early as all the jewelry was sold and the purpose of this giveaway was to promote Holly needing to sell jewelry to raise funds to finalize the adoption of her daughter who she is getting from China this month!!!

Remember the post I put up last night?! Holly was so moved by the posting that she is offering one of my readers a necklace and bracelet set if you help get the word out about the jewelry she is selling. Why is she selling this jewelry? She has a little girl sitting in an orphanage in China. The little girl is named Elaina and she needs her family to come and get her! But adoption is so expensive and instead of just asking for donations Holly is raising money through jewelry.

So YOU get fun jewelry and SHE gets her baby girl! Ugandan Jewelry is made by women in Uganda by making beads from magazine paper (that are sealed so they're very secure). We're saving the planet with recycled paper jewelry, helping raise funds to get a little girl out of an orphanage AND supporting Fair Trade workers in Uganda! It's a win-win all around!

You can view and purchase the jewelry HERE but make sure you visit the BLOG for directions on how to purchase.

So here's the deal- Holly is going to give one reader a necklace and bracelet that she has pre-selected (see images), a $25 value, for helping spread the word. You can earn entries by doing the following and leaving me comments for EACH ENTRY (one comment = one entry; don't write everything you did in ONE c.omment or you only get ONE entry):

Earn 2 entries per day that you TWEET the following (can tweet once a day for the 2 entries):
Help Holly bring Elaina home from China by buying Beautiful UGANDAN JEWELRY! http://purposedrivenfamily.blogspot.com/2010/09/its-here.html

Earn 2 entries if you update your Facebook status about Holly raising funds to bring her daughter home from China using the link: http://purposedrivenfamily.blogspot.com/2010/09/its-here.html

Earn 5 entries if you write a blog post encouraging your readers to visit http://purposedrivenfamily.blogspot.com/2010/09/its-here.html and make a purchase!
Must leave link to the post so I can verify!

Earn 10 entries for every item you purchase from Holly (I will verify with Holly that you did so).

Remember that this is NOT to promote the giveaway; it is to promote people purchasing the remaining jewelry to help Holly raise funds.

ENDS in 2 WEEKS on OCTOBER 7, 2010.
Open INTERNATIONALLY

Purpose Driven Beading

I've been made aware of Holly's journey to adopting her sweet baby girl from China several months ago and have been deeply moved to help support this family. The first little girl they've been fighting for to adopt recently passed away. While the family weeps for one life lost they are even more fervent to adopt another little girl and get her in her forever home as quickly as they can.

Unfortunately adoption is incredibly expensive. Instead of just asking for donations Holly uses her creativity and finesse to make the most beautiful beaded silverware to help raise funds! I just placed an order for my two older girls, hoping that what little I can give can help! My silverware arrived a couple weeks ago and I LOVE them! I almost couldn't wait until Christmas to give them to my girls but wait I must.

Holly is not taking anymore orders for beaded silverware but does have some beautiful Uganda Jewelry pieces for sale RIGHT NOW and they're going fast. Necklaces are $20, bracelets are $5 each and earrings are $5 each pair.

For information on Uganda Jewelry AND on how to purchase please visit Purpose Driven Life. Help Holly's family get a sweet little girl, Elaina, out of a Chinese orphanage and into a safe and loving home!

I am not affiliated with Holly or her blog. I made a purchase for beaded silverware a few weeks ago and feel passionately about helping her get to China to get her daughter. I hope you do, too! Please leave me a comment if you make a purchase or have any words of support for the family.

Weighing Heavy on My Heart

If you know me you know that I'm a very real person. I am honest and I am fair. However a recent "issue" at Girly Girl Giveaways (GGG) has me reeling with both sadness and anger. I will not go into great depth or specifics but I do want to say this situation has pierced my heart and had me question continuing GGG it it became a circus of greed.

I have been accused and threatened, told I am unethical when everything I do for and on this blog is as fair as fair can be. In the midst of so many fraudulent, dishonest blogs I try to present factual information and be honest about everything.

Basically someone was asked to relinquish their prize by the company as they had won from the same company on another blog. The company wanted to give everyone a fair chance to try their product instead of issuing two gifts to one winner. I chose a new winner and contacted them before I even knew this was going to become a huge issue or that the company and I would be threatened. But because of this reader's fit they got the prize and the new winner I had chosen got nothing.

This angers me beyond anything you can imagine. And I will not and cannot condone greed and selfishness at GGG. I do have to say that the new winner I had chosen, who did NOT end up with the prize, handled the news with such decorum and understanding that it made me want to cry! I felt SO badly for them!

GGG will remain open and stronger than ever before! It gives me so much joy and pleasure to choose a winner and spring my "YOU WON" message on them to brighten their day. The greed that darkened my doorway a few days ago has made me mull things over about GGG. You will see a NEW Disclosure Policy in the next post when I am able to get to it (it's almost 3:00AM right now because I am so angry about this situation I cannot sleep).

And I also want to define a few things for everyone so we're all on the same page-

I am a REVIEWER, a consumer just like you. I am not affiliated with ANY company unless otherwise notified. It is the sole discretion of the company offering a free gift to accept a winner and to ship a prize to the winner I randomly select. I write a review, post the giveaway and select a winner. That is it. That is where my responsibility ends. Once the sponsor has your information it is their responsibility to fulfill their obligation and get the prize to you. I am absolutely fine with helping you get prizes that never show up but I will not be made the spokesperson for a company I am not affiliated with, an employee of or as an unpaid representative.

I run this blog for free and spend many hours on it to find prizes for all of you. I LOVE getting to do that! But I can only be responsible for my own review and the facts contained therein. Everything else the responsibility of the company sponsoring the giveaway and if they decide you can only win one prize from them take it like a lady (or gentleman) and move on. Give someone else a chance! The sponsors have the right of refusal if they deem it necessary.

And now I urge every one of you to go and tell all of your favorite bloggers how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication in bringing you prizes. In the sea of gems there is always a bad apple or two that tries to ruin it for everyone else. So I'm sure other reviewers have had their fair share of problems. Let them know they are valued! Send them an E-Hug or a lovely thank you!

Okay my vent is over. I feel a little better.

And for the record to the one who asked. Here is the definition of a sweepstake
"...a lottery in which the stakes of the participants constitute the prize."

That means everyone adds money or something of value to a pot and if you win you get the pot. Blog-hosted giveaways are NOT sweepstakes. No one gives anything of value to gain entry to win the sum of the stakes. All prizes given by sponsors are gifts (even the US governments calls them gifts; check your tax form next year).

Giveaway- Mud and Twig

If you love Etsy then you'll love Mud & Twig. This uber cute Etsy shop has a mixture of fun products, all handmade. Here is a little message from the owner and creator:

"My name is Amber & I'm *nearly* 31 years old. I've been making things all my short little life. I dabble a bit in whatever I can get my hands on & if I don't know how to do it yet I plan to soon! I remember learning how to operate my great grandmother's sewing machine when I was 6 or 7 years old. The first thing I decided to make was a dust cover for our VCR. Because it was useful :) I found a scrap of rose-covered fabric & made myself a pattern. Ugly as it was, it was still keeping the VCR dust-free when I moved out at 18.

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I discovered Etsy! After a couple years of buying & developing crushes on Etsy, I finally got up the courage to open my own shop, Mud & Twig, just a few months ago. Most everything I make for my shop was born as a gift for someone close to me. I find inspiration in the individuality of my friends & family and the beauty of nature. My lip butter, however, began as a gift to myself! When we bought our first home & I met our lovely beekeeper neighbor, I was compelled to create my own beeswax lip balm. I had been so unsatisfied with the brands I was trying. I wanted something with minimal, simple ingredients. My love for the benefits of coconut oil on my skin and appreciation for the honey bee launched me into production! It took a few tries, but I now have a formula I love & I'll never go back!"

I ordered a Skull Onesie from Amber and she sent along a stick of her homemade lip butter. Everything she makes screams quality. She is so very talented!

The onesie is really cute. I got this for my newest niece who will be born around Christmas. Amber uses high quality onesies and uses her handmade screen to screen print each individual onesie. Let your baby rock out in this onesie! I am too excited to get the pictures of my little niece in this onesie and I think I'm going to have to go back and pick one up for my baby!!! I love skulls!

The lip butter was lightly flavored (Vanilla Mint) and keeps my lips moist and soft. I recently learned that she makes her lip butter with her neighbor's organically cared-for bees' wax. It does NOT get anymore handmade than that! She also tries to use as few ingredients as possible which matches my philosophy that we need to be careful what we put in and on our bodies. I love how clean and chic and professional the lip butter looks with the pretty labeling and the oval-shaped tube. This is definitely something I could envision at a quaint, shabby chic boutique!

I also think the lip butters would make fabulous girly favors for a bridal party or just a girls night out goodie bag! I love Girly Girl Goodies!!!
