Mama Palooza- Elava Botanik Review and Giveaway

CLOSED
Congratulations! Winner  #62 Jennifer T.

"Firmly planted on the belief that what goes on our bodies should be as pure and environmentally-responsible as what we put in our bodies."

Elava Botanik's line of haircare takes natural and organic to a new level. They are the only products in the world that are made with 100% natural, certified-organic fruit pulp. In fact their products are so fresh and pure that they all have a "fresh until" date printed on them just like produce you purchase at the supermarket. By using 100% natural essential plant oils the products remain shelf-stable for up to 10 months. All of their products are completely non toxic and contain no parabens, chlorides, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, preservatives or other chemicals. They are also allergen and gluten free. When tested within a salon environment for over a four year period Elava products were found to:
  • Inhibit UVA oxidation on colored hair, which increased the longevity of color treatment and created a healthier shine.
  • Promoted hair growth and cell renewal.
  • Added body and smooths hair by creating moisture where needed.
  • Improved hair strength and structure.
Elava Botanik's Shampoo and Conditioners come in three different varieties depending on hair type. Papaya for normal hair and frequent washing, Mango for fine and colored hair and Avocado for thick and colored hair. I was given the Avocado Shampoo and Conditioner to try out and was a little unsure about it at first. I do not have thick nor dry hair, in fact my hair is thin and tends to get oily quickly. I was afraid because Avocado is an oily fruit that this shampoo and conditioner would make my hair even more flat and oily then it can be. Guess what? I was wrong! First I would like to say that the texture of this shampoo is very different then what I am use to. It does not lather up in a soapy way but is more like the texture of yogurt. You are suppose to leave the shampoo on for 2 to 3 minutes rather then rinse it out immediately. I am assuming it is so your hair absorbs the nutrients and vitamins. After I washed the shampoo out my hair was really soft. I hadn't even used the conditioner yet and it already felt conditioned! The conditioner is suppose to remain in your hair for 3 to 5 minutes.  I decided to leave it on for the entire 5 minutes to get the full effect. Let me tell you I was very impressed with these hair products. They left my hair super soft and silky and not at all weighed down like I feared. I think this particular variety of shampoo conditioner would be great for someone with dry and damaged hair because it does a great job of moisturizing.

Visit Elava Botanik to find out more about their food grade products and to purchase them. Also be sure to like them on Facebook for more insights on health and beautiful hair.

Mama Palooza Giveaway - Springvale Soap

Although I am still new around here at Girly Girl, it will not take you long that there are two things that I LOVE: one is pampering products and one is etsy shops. When you combine the two, I often find myself a little bit in love.

Springvale is one of my favorite sources of soaps on etsy. These handcrafted goat's milk soaps are made from scratch using the old fashioned cold process method. The soaps are simple and use the following oils: soybean, cottonseed, olive, coconut, and castor as well as goat's milk. Sometimes she also adds honey, oatmeal, almonds, and/or coconut depending on the "flavor" she is going for.

I love that these soaps really hold up better than many hand-made varieties. They lather up nicely, which is not as common in non-commercially made soaps since usually chemicals are used to get this effect. However, these soaps provide a nice lather and set well between uses.

I was sent a bar of Black Raspberry Vanilla and it smells DIVINE! If you find that you can't make a decision of a favorite, I would definitely recommend this one!

I love the variety of scents that she offers ranging from fruit, floral, food, and themed scents like Twilight and World of Warcraft. She truly has something for everyone!

Buy It:
Visit Springvale for exceptionally priced soap that really follows through with quality.

Win It:

Mama Palooza Giveaway- Expressionery.Com

CLOSED
Congratulations! Winner  #41 The Bradley Family

Add a personal touch to every note, letter or gift with custom-printed stationery and a wide range of stationery supplies. Featuring unique designs, from sophisticated monograms to cute & classic holiday gift tags, our collection of printed stationery, custom stampers, embossers, book plate labels, invitations and even embossed napkins can make every occasion and correspondence just a bit more special.

Expressionery has some nice products that can be personalized to fit every occasion. One of their products in particular really caught my eye. Their line of Personalized Plates in a variety of designs would make the perfect gift for mom this year. Personalize one with a sentimental photo or have a special quote printed on one to present to her this holiday. What about putting some of her favorite treats on the plate wrapping it up with some clear wrap and a pretty bow? Then after she finishes her goodies she can display her beautiful keepsake plate for all to see. That's my plan! I was given the opportunity to choose one of these designer melamine plates for review. After going back and forth between a couple of different designs I chose Sunset Rose Plate because I thought it looked particularly Mother's Day-y.
As you can see I had "Love You Mom" printed on it and I think it looks great. My mother loves to feast on gourmet cheeses and cured meats so I plan to buy her a sampling of some of her favorites and wrapping them up on her plate to present to her with a bottle of her favorite red wine. Perfect gift!

Want to win one of these lovely personalized plates to present to your mom this Mother's Day?

Venettini Review and Giveaway

CLOSED
Congratulations! Winner  #84 nightowl
For almost 20 years, Venettini has been designing and manufacturing luxury children’s footwear with a large emphasis on fashion and style. Founded in 1989, Venettini enjoys a strong cult following. The brand has grown organically and steadily under the management of Kinderland, Inc., a family business dedicated to designing, manufacturing, and distributing high-end and luxury children’s footwear. Fashion, fit, and comfort drive Venettini’s designs, and we will continue to make feet look good and feel happy.

I was given the opportunity or more accurately my little girl Penelope was given the opportunity to review a pair of Venettini shoes of my choice. Talk about a tough decision to make! This company makes high quality, European, not to mention super cute shoes for little feet.

I chose to review the Hilary in black patent.

Patent upper with a bow decorating the toe.

Elastic around the collar provides a comfortable fit.

Hook-and-loop closure for easy on and off.

Breathable leather lining and a cushioned leather footbed.

Flexible rubber outsole.

Adorable! These look like doll shoes and I absolutely love them. OK, I know I am not the one wearing them so what does Penelope think about her new pair of shoes. She loves them too! As soon as she saw these cuties she wanted them on her feet and has since been wearing them everyday. And that's just around the house! Seriously I am not exaggerating from the time she wakes up she puts what she calls her "princess shoes" on and prances around in them. I was very impressed with the quality and look of these shoes. They also appear to be very comfortable with a soft flexible sole. If only they made them in my size... You can purchase Venettini shoes on Zappos and Shoes.com and many specialty shoe retailers nationwide. You can also like Venettini on facebook and follow on Twitter to keep informed about new styles and promotions.
Want to win some new shoes for your little guy or gal? Venettini is offering one of our readers the chance to win a pair of shoes in the winner's choice from their spring/summer collection.

TheraBreath Review and Giveaway

CLOSED
Congratulations! Winner  #20 Roshana
Do you ever wake up in the morning with a bad taste in your mouth and the dreaded "morning breath"? Perhaps you worry when you are up close and personal with someone that your breath might not be the freshest. Do you suffer from bad breath? I know this may not be a topic that people like to discuss but it is actually something that many people suffer from. In fact TheraBreath has treated over 1,000,000 people world wide to solve their problems of bad breath and unpleasant mouth taste. TheraBreath is the world's most advanced line of oral care and creator Dr. Katz stands by his products and personally guarantees that his formulas will work for you. Most of us are misinformed about the causes of bad breath. TheraBreath's website has a wealth of information and research articles to help you understand both the causes and how to remedy them. Even if you are one of the lucky ones that does not suffer from bad breath TheraBreath also carries other oral care products designed for healthy gums, teeth whitening, dry mouth, tonsil stones, and even a line of probiotics.

I was given three TheraBreath products for review and have been using them daily.

TheraBreath Toothpaste

"Brush with this toothpaste twice a day and you will stop bad breath, guaranteed! This formula is also great for gum health and nothing is more powerful at fighting cavities. Therabreath Toothpaste is designed to control the anaerobic bacteria that causes bad breath."  My husband was turned off by this toothpaste because it does not have the strong minty taste that many commercial toothpastes have. It also does not foam up the way others do. These things did not bother me at all. Especially since I understand that most of those minty tastes in those products are made by added chemicals and sugars that only mask the odors of bad breath and may even cause odor causing bacteria to multiply faster. And as for the foaming, most toothpastes add the foaming agent sodium lauryl sulfate to appear like something is happening, in reality this additive has no real effect on how clean your teeth are getting. One thing that my husband did agree on after brushing my teeth with this toothpaste is that I did have fresh breath. My teeth also feel much cleaner after brushing. I personally think this is a good toothpaste that works and I use it everyday. It also does not contain alcohol, saccharin, sodium lauryl sulfate, and benzalkonium chloride (a known allergen), and I am all about using products with natural ingredients and eliminating harsh chemicals and additives.

TheraBreath Oral Rinse
"Stop your bad breath and end chronic halitosis by using TheraBreath Oral Rinse after brushing with TheraBreath Toothpaste. This amazing rinse uses the odor-obliterating power of OXYD-8 for treating bad breath, stopping halitosis and eliminating sour, bitter and metallic tastes in your mouth." The same things I said about TheraBreath Toothpaste can also be said about this oral rinse. I have been using it everyday as part of my mouth cleaning regimen.
TheraBreath Mouth Wetting Lozenges
"Our unique Lozenges are unlike any breath mint you have ever tried. They work in three distinct stages to make sure your mouth is fresh, moist, and healthy. This three stage approach is not only unique, but incredibly effective at controlling bad breath odor." Did you know that healthy saliva contains a high concentration of oxygen which inhabits bad breath. Therefore the drier your mouth is, the greater your chance is of having bad breath. These mints help create saliva to keep your mouth moist. They also have a minty taste that help to eliminate odors quickly. Unlike the two other products I mentioned these mints are actually very minty. They start off with a very pleasant citrus-y scent but the minty taste quickly takes over. When I first tried these I was a little put off with how strong they were. I decided to give them a second chance and have since started to actually enjoy them. I pop one in my mouth after brushing and then again whenever I feel the need to freshen up.
All in all I believe that TheraBreath products are definitely high quality products that work and I would recommend them to anyone who is concerned with oral health.
TheraBreath has allowed me to give one of GGG's readers the chance to win TheraBreath Toothpaste and TheraBreath Oral Rinse
To Enter: Visit TheraBreath and tell me a product you are interested in trying. You can also get extra entries for liking TheraBreath on Facebook and following them on Twitter. And as usual you can also get extra entries for following GGG through GFC, Subscribing via email, liking us on Facebook and following via Twitter.

This giveaway will end on April 13, 2011. I will choose the winner using Random.org. Please leave a valid email address if it is not visible in your profile. US entries only.

Swanson Health Products Review and Giveaway

CLOSED
Congratulations! Winner  #16 cw
Recently I was given the opportunity to review several products from Swanson Health Products. Swanson Health Products was founded in 1969 with the goal and desire of bringing health and wellness to the world. They carry a vast array of products varying from supplements and vitamins to bath and beauty products and even healthy foods and more. Shopping on their site can be a little overwhelming with all the items they offer but it's almost certain you will find what you are looking for. You can even search for products based on health concern, which is pretty handy. I am a big believer in natural and organic products and love the variety that Swanson Health Products offers.
"Swanson Health Products sells discount vitamins and supplements, organic foods, natural skincare products, homeopathic remedies and more at the lowest possible prices. From old favorites like vitamin D, fish oil and weight loss supplements to health food products like organic coconut oil, you won’t find a better value anywhere else. In fact, we guarantee it—we guarantee our prices, our service and our quality. So start shopping and enjoy the savings."

Here are just a few of the products that Swanson Health Products carries and that I was given the chance to try.

I am very familiar with Tom's of Maine products and have used several of them. We regularly use Tom's of Maine toothpaste and love it. I had never tried this specific soap bar but was happy to see that it was unscented and for sensitive skin. Both my husband and little girl have sensitive skin and so I regularly purchase items that are free of synthetic fragrances and harsh chemicals. These are great products and Swanson Health carries a nice selection of other Tom's of Maine high quality products.

I have seen the Alba Botanica brand before but have never tried their products. This deodorant is unscented and does not contain any harsh or harmful ingredients. Alba Botanica makes natural bath and beauty products and they can all be found while shopping online at Swanson Health Products. I am very interested in trying some of their facial cleansers as well. This deodorant is a wonderful product if you are concerned about aluminum and other additives commonly found in other deodorants.

This is a 100% natural clay facial skin mask. "This mask will help draw out impurities from the pores and remove debris from under the skin, decreasing pore size." This stuff was a little messy to use but I loved how smooth and clean my skin felt after using it. I think this mask is great for people that tend to have an oily skin type. It really feels like it is absorbing the excess oil and I notice my pores did appear smaller after using it. Now also makes vitamins and supplements and has a nice selection of essential oils as well as healthy foods all which can be found on Swanson's.

This is just one of many supplements that Garden of Life makes. This is a product I was glad I received because I believe that EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids play a great role in your overall health. This particular brand is dairy free, gluten free and  contains no artificial colors or preservatives. Omega-3s support cardiovascular, brain, nerve, bone, skin, eye and immune system health.

"Warm up your home with the smell of fresh baked bread with Something Good Classic Bread Mix. Gluten free, this simple white bread is easy to mix and bake. It makes a medium sized loaf that is light with a subtle taste. It can be made ahead of time and frozen until you need it. Free of gluten, wheat, dairy, egg, peanut, tree nut, soya and fructose." This stuff is perfect if you are on a gluten or dairy free diet and it really is very simple to make. For those not watching their dairy intake you have the option of adding butter and egg to the mix which I did and it made a very fresh and tasty loaf of bread. Australis Foods also makes a few other food products for people on a gluten free or vegan diet. Swanson Health Products even has gluten free as a search option when shopping.
You can get all these products and many more at http://www.swansonvitamins.com/. Also be sure to follow them on Facebook for info on new products and promotions.

Tropical Traditions Review and Giveaway

CLOSED
Congratulations! Winner  #47  Reeva

Several weeks ago while searching the web I came across a review for Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil which lead me to do some more research. I found out that not only has coconut oil been a staple in cooking for thousands of years in many countries with tropical climates but it is one of the best cooking oils you can use. According to Tropical Traditions website research has shown  "that the medium chain fatty acids found in coconut oil boosts the body’s metabolism, raises body temperatures, and helps provide greater energy which can lead to weight loss." In addition "Virgin Coconut oil is rich in lauric acid, a nutrient that supports the body’s immune system. Lauric acid is also found in human mother’s milk."

Tropical Traditions Gold Label Standard Virgin Coconut Oil is an unrefined coconut oil made from organic coconuts. The coconuts are harvested in small family farms in the Philippines by traditional methods with strict USDA standards, insuring the highest quality Virgin Coconut Oil.

I love to cook and I love trying new ingredients so I was very eager to find out how this oil would compare to more widely used oils in the kitchen. Immediately upon opening the jar I was pleasantly surprised. This stuff smells amazing! Like a tropical oasis of fresh coconuts. It did not smell of oil at all so I was curious what it would taste like right out of the jar. That's right! I stuck a spoon inside and scooped up a small amount of this solid oil to taste. It tastes almost exactly like it smells! Coconut oil can be used frozen, in drinks and in cooking and I immediately wanted to make something with it and find out the outcome. You can find many tried and tasted recipes using this coconut oil here but I decided to just use it in my everyday cooking. I have since started using this oil instead of my usual stuff in practically all of my cooking. It really works great in both sweet and savory foods. Their is a slight coco-nutty taste but it just brings another element to your dish that is really good. My favorite thing to make with this oil thus far has been fried coconut shrimp. YUM! It also makes delicious and healthy smoothies. Just melt a tablespoon or two to your usual smoothie recipe and blend. Oh and FYI it is crucial that you melt it before putting it in a cold beverage otherwise it will clump up and not be as appetizing.

Check out Tropical Traditions FAQ page to find out a ton of more information on this healthy oil alternative. You can purchase your jar of Tropical Traditions Gold Label Standard Virgin Coconut Oil online. Make sure you choose “Referred by a Friend” at checkout and enter the code 6935274 on your first order to receive a complimentary copy of Tropical Traditions Virgin Coconut Oil book.

Ecomom Review and Giveaway

As an eco-friendly mom I like to find stores online that are strictly eco-friendly. I hate visiting a store and spending half my time searching for eco-friendly products or worrying whether the products I'm buying are truly eco-friendly. So, I'm glad I found EcoMom. EcoMom, an eco-friendly online store, has given me the opportunity to review two of the many green products found at the store: the Boon Grass Drying Rack and a bottle of Smartypants Gummy Multivitamins.

I really enjoyed testing out this Boon Grass Drying Rack. My baby is now a toddler but I was still able to place his toddler plates and sippy cups easily on the rack. I also have two school aged girls and a husband. So, I often found myself trying to pile on non-toddler dishes on to the rack as well. To my amazement the rack can hold a lot and in so many different ways. Just stick the dish between the blades of grass and this two-piece drying rack holds the dishes in so well. The dishes are practically dry a few minutes later.

I like that I can reuse the water too. I just empty out the water at the bottom of the rack into a bowl and then dump the water into my garden. I'm also delighted to know that the dish rack plastic is  BpA-free, Phthalate free, and PVC free.  It also looks great and cleans easily.

I only wish the dish rack was larger, large enough to hold 5 meal plates,  5 glasses, and utensils for five. In this larger version I would love to have a section of taller grass for the utensils and cooking spoons.

The Smartypants Gummy Multivitamins are tasty. They taste and look like gum drops. In fact, I had been adding 1 to each of my girls lunch boxes for the past couple of weeks and I just found out yesterday that they thought they were gum drops.

The vitamins have eco-friendly non-tuna sourced DHA Omega 3's, are gluten and casein free, contain no high fructose corn syrup, and our naturally flavored from natural sources. Also every time a customers buys a bottle of SmartyPants, a donation is made to Vitamin Angels.

I only wish they weren't so tasty. I was seriously tempted to snack on these vitamins. If I was tempted, than my kids would be tempted. I had to keep the vitamins high and hidden just to be safe.
