Congratulations! Winner #2
Did you know Alaska's state bird is the mosquito? Well, not really but it is a long running joke here considering the abundant mosquito population we have. There are 35 species of mosquito's in Alaska! Ouch! Come summer these little buggers torment us Alaskans relentlessly.
Among other products ThermaCELL carries an assortment of mosquito repelling lanterns and appliances and guess who was given the opportunity to review one of these lanterns? ME! Now this is a product I knew would be very useful.
ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent Lantern is odorless, portable, and works in minutes. The lantern creates a 15x15 foot of protection keeping 98% of mosquito's and black flies away. It is DEET free and there is no more need for smelly lotions, sprays or oils. So how does it work? Each lantern uses a butane cartridge that heats up a mat releasing allethrin, an insect repellent that is a synthetic copy of an insecticide found in chrysanthemums. Each mat contains enough repellent for four hours of protection and works in minutes. In addition to keeping the bugs at bay this little lantern also produces a lot of light. Perfect for those warm summer nights when you feel like enjoying a backyard BBQ.
So how did this bad boy hold up to our Alaskan skeetos? Pretty great! We have been using it on our front porch when Chris is out grilling to keep them bugs away from him and our dinner. And because it is so light and portable we move it to the backyard when we are sitting out there enjoying Alaska's midnight sun. Which brings me to the actual lantern part. It is summer, and in case you didn't know summers in Alaska are light out the majority of the time. This means although I can tell that the light given off by the lantern is bright it really is pointless right now. Come winter though this will come in handy for many hours a day. I love multipurpose products! We are planning on going camping when Chris gets home and guess who will be coming along with us? Why, this ThermaCELL lantern of course! That's right, bug off bugs!
Check out ThermaCELL's store locator to find where you can purchase their mosquito repelling devices.
